Gene Hackman and Wife Found Dead in Santa Fe Home
Legendary actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday, along with their dog. Authorities have not confirmed a cause of death, though foul play is not suspected.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that investigators are conducting a preliminary death investigation and awaiting a search warrant. Hackman’s daughter, Elizabeth, told TMZ she believes toxic fumes, possibly carbon monoxide poisoning, may be to blame. A gas company is assisting in the investigation.
Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner, starred in Bonnie and Clyde, The French Connection, and Superman. He retired from acting in 2004, settling into a quiet life in New Mexico with Arakawa, a retired pianist. The couple had been married since 1991.
ackman is survived by three children from his first marriage. His passing marks the end of an era in Hollywood.
