Actress Helen Siff, known for roles in films including The Karate Kid (1984), Don’t Mess with the Zohan (2008) and Hail, Caesar! (2016) has died at the age of 88.
The late performer’s family confirmed that she passed away in Los Angeles after a long battle with a “painful illness” on Thursday, December 18.
“Those who worked with Helen knew her not just as a talented performer, but as someone who brought professionalism, dedication and genuine kindness to every set,” the family said in a statement shared with the Hollywood Reporter.
“She understood that every role, no matter how large or small, was an opportunity to contribute something meaningful to the story being told.”
Siff, born in Woodmere, New York, in 1937, had more than 70 on-screen credits to her name across TV and film spanning the last five decades, working alongside the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, James Caan, George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Sylvester Stallone.
The actress played a cashier in John G. Avildsen’s The Karate Kid, and had roles in Earth Girls Are Easy, Pee-Wee’s Big Top and Rocky. Her television shows included Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family,S.W.A.T. and Good Trouble.

Siff’s daughter, Victoria Russell, described her mother on Instagram as a “dynamic, charismatic, one-of-a-kind mom.”
“She loved her craft deeply, but her greatest role was being a mother and grandmother,” she wrote.
