Barbara Streisand & James Brolin have been married for 24 years, still hold hands and go on dates

Just like all relationships, marriage takes work.
This is a truth that doesn’t discriminate.

Whether you’re an average Joe or a famous celebrity, you need to work to make a marriage last.

More than two decades after their marriage, James Brolin and Barbra Streisand remain happily married.

Their love story started on July 1, 1996.
Streisand and Brolin met at a party after some of their friends set them up.

Streisand admitted being anxious about the encounter and that she went straight the where the kids were playing and only came to the dinner table when she needed to.

She also shared she was expecting Brolin all bearded up as it was his usual appearance.

Surprisingly, Brolin showed up shaved and with his hair cleanly cut.

Streisand recalled making fun of his hair saying, “Who messed up your hair?”

While it can be an embarrassing moment for some, Brolin admitted it was the moment that made him fall for her.

The two hit it up pretty nicely.
When Brolin went to Ireland to shoot My Brother’s War, Streisand recalled falling asleep on the bathroom floor with the phone against her ear.

The two made their relationship public at the premiere of The Mirror Has Two Faces where they appeared on the red carpet together.

Exactly two years after their first meeting, the two died the knot.
They had their share of challenges, but they also celebrated a lot more triumphs together.

Streisand was beside Brolin during his induction to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Brolin, meanwhile, was beside Streisand when she received the National Medal of Arts Award.

In 2006, the couple should their new family when they snapped a photo during her tour.

Brolin and Streisand were married to different people and had their own families.

Brolin and Streisand shared the secrets of their successful marriage.
While some of them can raise an eyebrow, the couple vouched for their ways nonetheless.

Brolin revealed that they have separate bank accounts.

He said that being married for the third time, he knew a lot of things that can strain a marriage.

He didn’t want those things to happen again, so he took precautions.

He also swore to the importance of couple’s therapy.

He shared that none of us are immune to impulsive emotions and they can easily bleed out into arguments.

With a “referee” in the middle, Brolin said that a resolution can be achieved through level-headedness.

The two have also been very involved in each other’s children.
Josh Brolin, James’ son and known as Thanos in the Marvel Franchise, shared that he loved how Streisand became a typical grandmother when his youngest child was born.

And while being stuck with each other during the pandemic created tension among people, Brolin and Streisand shared that it made them closer to each other.

According to the couple, it’s all about listening to each other.
“The secret is to listen carefully,” she said, as quoted by PEOPLE.

“I think to be a good actor, you have to listen. To be a good person, you have to listen. To be a good marriage partner, you have to listen. Hear the other person. Agree to disagree.”

“I think everybody needs to be a negotiator,” Brolin, meanwhile, shared with PEOPLE.

“Everybody needs patience and know when to take a walk.”
