Two people were killed and three others seriously injured after a vehicle struck pedestrians in Manhattan on Friday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle around 6 p.m. local time. Security footage later showed the car speeding through an intersection before crashing into a parked van near a barbershop and then into a group of people outside.
Two victims died at the scene, while three men—aged 36, 44, and 51—were critically injured. Emergency services transported them to Mount Sinai Morningside, where they remain in serious condition.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, focusing on what led the driver to lose control. No further details about the driver or potential contributing factors have been confirmed.
The incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in busy urban areas, where accidents like this can have devastating consequences.
