President Donald Trump described a tense moment during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after a sudden noise disrupted the ballroom at the Washington Hilton.
He said he and Melania Trump were seated together when the sound broke the calm of the evening.
At first, he thought it might have been something harmless, like a dropped tray, but Melania immediately sensed danger and recognized it as something serious.
As panic spread, guests reportedly ducked under tables while security personnel rushed in to respond.
Trump, Melania, and JD Vance were quickly escorted to safety as officers secured the area.
Reports indicated that one officer was injured but protected by a bulletproof vest and is expected to recover.
Trump also noted that Melania has long been aware of the risks tied to his role, especially following past threats.
Despite the incident, he said the event should continue in the future, thanking law enforcement for their rapid response.
