Earlier this summer, Appanoose County, Iowa, suffered a heartbreaking tragedy when 17-year-old Ayden Beeson,
a high school student and newly crowned Prom King, drowned while swimming at Rathbun Lake. A 911 caller reported
a possible drowning, and the Sheriff’s Office, along with the Water Rescue unit, responded immediately.
Sadly, Ayden was recovered about an hour later in 15 to 20 feet of water and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Ayden was a standout in the Centerville School District—a football team leader, accomplished tennis player,
and beloved Prom King. Known for his warmth and kindness, he left an impression on everyone. Superintendent
Mark Taylor shared, “Such a great kid lost in the prime of his life is devastating for our community, for his family,
and for the lives he was going to impact. He was kind to everyone. There wasn’t a single person he couldn’t be nice to.”
The Centerville community united in grief, honoring Ayden’s memory with heartfelt tributes. Beyond his athletic achievements,
he inspired peers through leadership, friendliness, and dedication. Though his life ended too soon,
Ayden’s legacy of kindness and positivity continues to resonate, reminding all of the powerful impact one young life can have.
Rest in peace, Ayden Beeson.
