President Donald Trump’s recent executive order is set to revoke non-binary gender markers on passports, sparking concern among LGBTQ+ advocates. The order, “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” enforces a strict male-female binary based on sex assigned at birth.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that all “X” gender marker requests are frozen, stating, “Sex, not gender, shall be used” on federal documents. This move is part of Trump’s sweeping agenda since returning to office, signing over 200 executive orders affecting employment, climate, and immigration. The policy marks a major rollback of Biden-era inclusivity measures, prompting backlash from civil rights organizations.
