The New Jersey “Giant Baby” Who Grew Into a Life Filled With Confidence and Purpose

When Patricia Clarke gave birth in 1983, she had no idea her newborn son would instantly capture statewide attention. Kevin Robert Clark entered the world weighing more than 16 pounds, astonishing the medical staff at Community Memorial Hospital and setting a new record for the facility. His arrival quickly became a local sensation, with newspapers and neighbors buzzing about the unusually large newborn who seemed to rewrite expectations the moment he was born.

Kevin’s early days were marked by media curiosity, but also by good health and a cheerful personality. Nicknamed the “giant baby,” he appeared on popular television programs like Saturday Night Live and Good Morning America, where audiences were charmed by both his size and his easygoing temperament. His family welcomed the attention with warmth and humor, turning what could have been an overwhelming spotlight into a playful chapter of his childhood.

As he grew, Kevin continued to defy typical height charts. By age 12 he was already 5-foot-7, and by junior high he had stretched to an impressive 6-foot-5. The questions, stares, and surprised reactions followed him everywhere, but he learned early on to handle them with grace. Even as an adult—now standing around 6-foot-9—Kevin says hardly a day passes without someone commenting on his height. Instead of frustration, he meets most interactions with the same friendly humor that shaped his childhood.

Beyond the headlines that marked his earliest days, Kevin built a grounded and meaningful life. He served his country in the military, created a career he’s proud of, and now shares a home with his wife—who stands an even 6 feet tall—and their Great Dane. While his extraordinary birth story continues to fascinate people, Kevin lives firmly in the present, focusing on happiness, stability, and the everyday experiences that matter far more than any record-breaking number on a hospital scale.
