Taylor Swift reveals the one part of her body she refuses to wash when showering

We all have our shower routines.

Now, Taylor Swift is spilling hers.

And one detail has fans absolutely freaking out.

The burning question

In 2021, Harvard Health researchers discovered that 66% of Americans shower daily — often more than their bodies actually need.

We don’t know exactly how Taylor Swift showers, but the 35-year-old has fans talking after revealing there’s one part of her body she skips when she steps into the shower.

While most of us have our own scrubbing routines — like lathering up from legs to shoulders before rinsing — Swift takes a slightly different approach. During a 2019 appearance on The Ellen Show, the 14-time Grammy winner admitted she only washes her legs when she shaves them.

Ellen DeGeneres asked the burning question: “Do you wash your legs in the shower?”

“I do, but only when I shave,” Swift replied.

“The shaving cream is like soap, right?” she joked, with DeGeneres nodding in agreement. The host added, “I think that’s the reason that most women wash their legs — because we have to, because we shave our legs.”

“I’m confused”

The clip quickly went viral online, sparking a mix of amusement and confusion. One fan tweeted, “Taylor Swift said she don’t wash her legs but she shaves them girl that is not the same thing wtf.”

Another added, “I’m confused, isn’t the shower supposed to be the place where you wash EVERYTHING?!”

For others, Swift’s minimalist approach actually makes sense. Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, told Women’s Health:

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

“Unless your legs are visibly soiled, you don’t actually need to wash them directly with a cleanser. The cleanser that drips down your body is enough to remove most of the dirt and sweat that accumulates during the day.”

He did note, however, that your feet should always get a thorough wash. And since this interview aired five years ago, it’s likely that Swift has updated her shower routine since then.

The body part you wash first reveals something

Dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak from Manhattan explained to The New York Post that daily showers aren’t always necessary, saying bath soap “really removes and destroys the skin’s microbiome,” which is “extremely important in overall health of the body.”

In 2020, physician James Hamblin even wrote a book on the subject, Clean: The New Science of Skin, explaining why he stopped showering daily. He told the BBC that anyone who “mocks people who don’t shower as frequent are betraying profound ignorance of the skin microbiome.”

While showering is one of life’s most routine tasks, experts say the order you wash your body can reveal surprising insights about your personality.

  • Face: Starting with your face suggests you care about how others perceive you and may be a bit self-critical. Lifestyle expert Anu Mukherjee notes, “They love money and it shows!” and adds, “Others can sometimes find it difficult to get along with you because they don’t always understand your point of view.”
  • Arms and hands: Washing these first shows independence, strength, and a proactive attitude toward life. These people take pride in what they can achieve.
  • Chest: Beginning with your chest points to confidence, groundedness, and a rational mindset. Mukherjee says, “You are often pragmatic, honest and loyal. Unfortunately, you are also naturally stressed, because you probably want to do well.”
  • Head or hair: People who start here are disciplined, intellectual, and creative. Mukherjee adds, “You are a romantic, who needs love.”
  • Shoulders or back: Washing these first may indicate a sense of responsibility or carrying a hidden burden. “They say ‘carry the world on your shoulders,’ and that’s exactly what you do… Generally, this makes you a loyal person who can be relied on,” says Mukherjee.
  • Armpits: Starting with armpits signals loyalty and deep social bonds. Mukherjee warns, “You can sometimes be a little naive and lack self-confidence.”
  • Privates: Washing these first often points to introversion and a reserved nature. You may prefer smaller, familiar circles, but those close to you value your authenticity and kindness.
  • Random order: People who shower without a set routine are spontaneous, adaptable, and adventurous. Mukherjee notes, “You also have an adventurous temperament and don’t like to be bored, especially in a relationship.”
