For decades, Ron Ely and his wife, former beauty queen and flight attendant Valerie Lundeen, seemed to embody a gentle, old‑Hollywood kind of stability. Married in 1984, raising three children, then welcoming a grandson in 2018, their life in Santa Barbara appeared peaceful and private, far from the jungle sets that made him famous. That illusion shattered on October 15, 2019, when 62‑year‑old Valerie was found inside their home with multiple stab wounds, killed by their 30‑year‑old son, Cameron.
Deputies later confronted Cameron outside. Authorities said he posed a threat; four officers opened fire, killing him at the scene. In 2020, Ron sued the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, alleging his son had been trying to surrender when he was shot more than 20 times. Now, with Ron’s death at 86, the Ely family’s story closes as a haunting mix of love, promise, and irreparable loss
