She Paid Me to Be Her Boyfriend—Then Everything Spiraled

When a beautiful stranger offered me $500 to pretend to be her boyfriend for three hours, I thought it was easy money. I had

no idea it would nearly destroy everything I’d worked for.I’m Anthony, a 32-year-old marketing professional. I had a stable job,

a small apartment, and was helping support my aging mother. Life was predictable until

Meredith walked into my favorite café one Saturday and made her shocking offer.

She needed a fake boyfriend for lunch with her strict parents. Her original plan had fallen through, and she promised it would

only be for a few hours. Against my better judgment—and tempted by the cash—I said yes.I didn’t know her father was David,

my boss and CEO.The lunch was a nightmare. David recognized me immediately but played along,

grilling me on work and making veiled threats.

Meredith’s mother adored me, and Meredith acted like we were in love. I was trapped. I demanded we stop, but Meredith

refused. She said I was perfect for the role—and now that she knew who I was, she intended to use it. “Back out,” she said, “and

I’ll tell my dad you harassed me.”That’s when I hit record. The next day, I went straight to David’s office,

shaking with nerves. I told him everything and played the recording.

I expected to be fired. Instead, he laughed. Apparently, Meredith had done this before. Her mother couldn’t accept she was gay,

so Meredith faked relationships to keep the peace. David knew but hadn’t realized she was manipulating coworkers. He thanked

me for my honesty, told me to delete the recording, and promised to handle it. A week later, I got promoted.
