Prince William knew Meghan had ‘no intention’ of staying royal, expert claims

The initial meeting between Prince William and Meghan Markle was said to be promising, with the two “clicking” right away.

William was very fond of her, although she believed at the time that the relationship between the two would be “trying” from the off, according to Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, authors of the Pro-Sussex biography Finding Freedom.

“She was self-aware enough to understand that the brothers were wary of women who were more interested in their titles than their wellbeing,” Scobie and Durand wrote in the book. “And she couldn’t have come from a more different world than that of William, his wife, and most of their friends.”

William was reported to have said to his brother’s girlfriend: “I was looking forward to meeting the girl who has put that silly grin on my brother’s face.”

However, despite the initial connection, William believed Harry was rushing things with Meghan and advised him to take it slow, which Harry didn’t like.

“William soon began to wonder about some of Meghan’s traits and motivations,” a source told the Daily Mail, as revealed by the Express.

“He was worried that at times she seemed to be more concerned about her personal progression or profile over the wider goals and aims of the Royal Family.

The future king was said to have told his brother, “Don’t feel you need to rush this,” and “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.” Allegedly, Harry got upset by the phrase “this girl.” However, all William wanted was “to make sure that Harry wasn’t blindsided by lust,” Omid Scobie wrote.

Eventually, William decided not to interfere. It was because he could see Meghan was trying to do adjustments in order to fit in the family.

Today, the relationship between William and Meghan is an entirely different story. Since she and Harry stepped down from their royal duties and left Britain behind, the relationship between the brothers turned into a rocky one. What added fuel to the fire were the numerous interviews both Harry and Meghan gave in which they accused the royals of a number of things, which obviously, the Palace didn’t like.

Royal biographer and commentator Phil Dampier told The Sun that William could sense Meghan’s plan of marrying into the royal family.

“I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I’ve been saying or thought for the last few years that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the royal family,” Dampier told the Sun, in reference to what Queen Elizabeth’s confidante, Lady Elizabeth Anson, said of William’s concerns about Meghan marrying his brother. “She saw as a stepping stone getting married to Harry to new fame and fortune. And I think that’s what initially Prince William was concerned about.
