Prince Louis offered first ‘royal role’ – but his parents turned it down

Prince Louis is only seven years old, but already he has been considered for his first royal role. However, that didn’t go down well with his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who turned down the proposal in a rather humorous way.

Prince Louis is quickly growing up, just like his siblings. The 7-year-old, who is fourth in the line of succession – after his father and two older siblings – was last seen when the royals attended a church service in late August in Crathie, Scotland, not far from Balmoral.

Now, he is back to everyday life at Lambrook School in Berkshire, not far from his family’s home on the Windsor estate. But something big is coming up soon, as Louis, his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince George, together with Prince William and Kate Middleton, are preparing to move to a new home nearby.

While George and Charlotte have not yet taken on any official royal duties, they, like Louis, have appeared alongside their parents at several public outings. However, some events – including the Wimbledon tennis tournament earlier this summer – were still considered a bit too much for the 7-year-old.

Although Louis may be the youngest of the three, he has already been offered his first royal patronage. The organizers of the World Conker Championships wrote to Prince William and Kate Middleton after hearing that Louis was very enthusiastic about collecting conkers — the seeds of horse chestnut trees and a traditional children’s game in Britain.

Prince Louis offered first royal patronages

It was during an outing with Melania Trump in Windsor last month, as part of the U.S. President and First Lady’s state visit, that Kate revealed Louis had become a huge fan of collecting conkers.

“We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed – conkers everywhere,” Kate said, adding that Louis even puts conkers in his toy trucks and plays with them.

According to The Guardian, conkers are considered “nature’s Labubu,” thanks to their enduring popularity. A few days ago, King Charles even gifted 300 conkers from Windsor Castle and was humorously branded the “savior” of the World Conker Championship.

Following that, the organizers wanted to give Louis the title of honorary patron. However, that’s where his parents drew the line. Per The Telegraph, on behalf of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kensington Palace politely declined the honorary role for Louis.

“We really appreciate the invite, but currently Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies,” the statement read.

Time will tell whether Prince Louis’s conker interest will continue – or if he might even compete in the World Championships in the future.
