Olympic Star Who Confessed To Cheating Gives Update After His Plea Goes Viral

Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid spoke publicly after his emotional Olympic interview, which drew widespread attention following his bronze medal finish in the men’s 20km individual event.

Instead of celebrating his podium result, the 28-year-old stunned viewers by breaking down in tears on live television and admitting he had cheated on his girlfriend months earlier.

Lægreid said the moment felt incomplete because he could not share it with her, expressing deep regret and remorse rather than joy over his Olympic success.

The unexpected confession quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the Games, sparking debate about vulnerability, timing, and the pressures athletes face in emotional moments.

In the days that followed, Lægreid revealed he still has not heard from his former girlfriend since the interview, though he said he remains hopeful that time may help.

Reflecting on the situation, he admitted he may not have been in the right mental state immediately after the race and questioned whether sharing such a personal matter publicly was selfish.

He also acknowledged that his confession drew attention to someone who never chose to be in the public eye, adding to his feelings of uncertainty and regret.

Despite not knowing what comes next, Lægreid said he hopes the situation will eventually bring closure, even if it does not end as he wishes, as he refocuses on competition and personal growth.
