Norbert the Viral Therapy Dog Passes Away at 15

Norbert, the adorable therapy dog known worldwide for his high-fives and heartwarming presence, has passed away. His owner, Julie Steines, shared the devastating news on Instagram, revealing that the beloved pup died peacefully in her arms Sunday night, just two months shy of his 16th birthday.

Norbert, full name Saint Norbert Liv Freyermuth Steines, was more than just a viral sensation. As a unique mixed-breed rescue dog, he was an advocate for pet adoption, inspiring countless people to open their hearts and homes to rescue animals.

In her heartfelt tribute, Julie described Norbert as “the honor of a lifetime,” expressing how his adoption profoundly changed her life. “As the only pup in his litter, he was a champion for pet adoption. Adopting him forever changed my life for the better in unimaginable ways,” she wrote.

Norbert’s legacy goes far beyond his viral videos and high-fives. His work as a therapy dog brought joy and comfort to people of all ages. His influence extended to a successful picture-book series and charitable initiatives that helped bring attention to important causes.
