NFL star found dead at 25 in hometown

NFL star Rondale Moore was found dead at his home in New Albany, Indiana at the weekend, aged just 25.

According to tragic reports, the wide receiver, who played for the Minnesota Vikings following stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, died of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday, February 21 in the garage in his hometown of New Albany.

As per AP, Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin confirmed Moore’s death, stating that an autopsy would be conducted on Sunday (yesterday).

The Vikings issued a statement addressing Moore’s untimely death. It reads:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rondale Moore. While we are working to understand the facts, we have spoken with Rondale’s family to offer our condolences and the full support of the Minnesota Vikings.

“We have also been in communication with our players, coaches, and staff, and will make counseling and emotional support resources available to anyone in need. Our thoughts are with Rondale’s family and friends during this devastating time.”

Moore was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals as the 49th pick overall in the 2021 NFL draft. Following a standout college career at Purdue, he enjoyed a promising start to his time with the Cardinals, playing for them for three seasons.

He was then traded to Atlanta, though didn’t feature for the Falcons after sustaining an injury in training camp.

Before last season, Moore signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, only to suffer another serious injury.

“Can’t even begin to fathom or process this,” former Cardinals teammate J.J. Watt wrote of Moore’s passing on X.

“There’s just no way. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in peace Rondale.”
