Netflix Star Dies Aged 24, Fans In Disbelief

Police say that 24-year-old South Korean Netflix actor Kim Sae-ron passed away.

The actress who rose to stardom on the streaming service’s popular series Bloodhounds has received a ton of tributes.

On Sunday, a friend discovered Kim dead at home and called the police. According to the authorities, no suspicious circumstances are thought to exist.

She was one of South Korea’s most promising actors, but after a drunk driving incident in 2022, her career suffered a knock.

At the age of nine, Kim made her screen debut and went on to land roles in several movies and television series.

She became well-known as a kid star after appearing in the movies A Brand New Life (2009) and The Man From Nowhere (2010).

Later, Kim landed her first adult part in the 2018 thriller The Villagers and the 2016 TV drama Secret Healer.

Her most recent role was in the 2023 Netflix release of the Korean drama series Bloodhounds.

She was engaged in a drunk driving incident in May 2022, though, and a judge fined her £11,000 the following April.

In the face of a strong response following the conviction, her role in Bloodhounds was later diminished.

Kim expressed her regret to the production staff and stated she was “very sorry” in a post at the time.

She wrote, “I had an accident yesterday on May 18, around 8 am in Gangnam, I made a big mistake by being drunk at that time.”

“I am also very sorry to the production crew, including fellow actors and staff, for interrupting the production of the work that is being shot and the work that was being prepared.”

“Once again, I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience. There is no excuse for this unfortunate incident and I am disappointed and so ashamed of my mistake.”

“I will reflect and reflect again and again so that this never happens again. I’m sorry.”

Fans have been posting tributes to Kim on social media since her death was announced today.

One fan wrote, “This is truly heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to Kim Sae-ron’s family, friends, and fans.” 

“May she rest in peace, and may those who loved her find strength during this difficult time.”

Another added, “I am still in denial, wishing it was all just a bad dream. Rest in Peace, Kim Sae-ron.”

A third wrote, X: “Rest in peace to one of my favorite artists of all time.”
