My MIL Wanted to Sit Between Us at the Wedding — I Said Yes, and She Regretted It

When my future MIL, Patricia, demanded to sit between me and Ethan at our wedding, I agreed with a smile. She thought she’d won—but I had a plan. Her obsession with Ethan had been obvious from day one, always undermining me with passive-aggressive jabs. From criticizing my dress to hijacking venue visits, she wanted control. I had spent months swallowing insults, but not anymore.

She even showed up to our wedding in a white, glittery gown, stealing attention like it was her big day. Then she dragged a chair between me and Ethan at the head table. When he brushed it off, I acted unbothered and made a quiet call to the cake vendor. I wasn’t about to let her stunt go unanswered. That’s when I decided—if she wants the spotlight, I’ll give it to her.

When it was time to cut the cake, everyone gasped—on top stood figures of Ethan and Patricia arm-in-arm. I took the mic and smiled sweetly, “Clearly, you two are the real couple tonight—please, cut the cake together.” The crowd murmured, laughed, and stared. Patricia froze. Ethan looked stunned. I handed her the knife and said, “Go on, everyone’s watching.”

I walked out with my bridesmaids, champagne in hand, grinning. I canceled the marriage the next morning—no regrets, just freedom. Patricia got the spotlight she craved, and Ethan got to stay with his number one fan. As for me? I got peace—and the last laugh. Honestly, it was the best wedding exit I could’ve asked for.
