After months of silence, my ex Kyle suddenly wanted to visit our daughter Emma for Father’s Day. I knew it wasn’t love
— he wanted photos for social media. He hadn’t called, helped, or asked about school in six months. Still, I let Emma decide.
At school, she began making a Father’s Day card but told me she didn’t know what to write — “I don’t feel like I have a dad anymore.”
That night, though, she quietly finished it at home, decorating it with care and asking me for glitter. I didn’t see the message inside.
Kyle arrived with a new girlfriend, camera in hand, ready for his performance. He gave Emma a gift while posing for photos.
Then Emma handed him her card. With the camera still rolling, he opened it — and froze. Inside, it read:
“Happy Father’s Day… to Mom.” Emma explained calmly that I was the one who showed up, supported her, and loved her like a real parent.
The mood shifted. I handed Kyle documents detailing missed child support and legal notices. His girlfriend looked shocked.
Later, while baking cookies, Emma hugged me and whispered, “You really are both my parents.”
