Maya, seeking a peaceful life, notices her reclusive neighbor, Mrs. Harrington, visiting a rundown shack twice daily with shopping bags. Despite Mrs. Harrington’s warnings, Maya investigates and discovers several dogs inside. Confronting Mrs. Harrington, Maya learns the dogs are strays that Mrs. Harrington has been rescuing and feeding. “I take in strays,” Mrs. Harrington explains. “I bring them here because I know they’ll be safe with me.”
