Mom Leaves Note On “Disrespectful” Son’s Door, And Now It’s Going Viral

Heidi Johnson of Temple, Arizona, found a unique solution to deal with her 13-year-old son Aaron’s disrespectful behavior and lack of attention towards his homework. She decided to leave a thorough note on his bedroom door after he argued that his earnings from YouTube absolved him from any household duties. The note itemized a pretend “invoice” for living costs, such as $116 for rent, $21 for internet, and $150 for food, in addition to chores and a condition for a $30 cleaning fee for unfinished tasks.

Hey Aaron, I see you forgot you’re just thirteen and I’m the parent here. Looks like you need a reminder about being independent,” Johnson’s note said, pointing out the results of Aaron’s behavior and the duties that come with acting independent.

People online had different opinions about Johnson’s tough-love method. Some fans praised her for teaching responsibility, but others thought her way was too strict. Johnson explained her reasoning by saying, “I gave him a ‘bill’ to show a lesson. Nothing is free. Someone has to give up something eventually.”

Johnson’s experience has started a bigger discussion about how we raise kids, what it means to be responsible, and how to get children ready for the challenges of growing up. Her message wraps up with a reminder that she is both a loving parent and someone who sets rules, highlighting the important mix of discipline and affection in being a good parent.
