Meghan Markle’s marriage to Prince Harry was not her first one. In fact, she had been married once before, to then-husband Trevor Engelson. As Meghan began dating Harry, Trevor had a brutal prediction of what was going to happen between his ex-wife and the prince.

While still at the beginning of her successful acting career, Meghan met her first husband, Trevor Engelson. The duo tied the knot in 2011 at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios in Jamaica.

The wedding lasted three days, with a bridesmaid telling Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton it was a “moving wedding”.

However, cracks began to appear in the marriage almost immediately. At the time, Meghan was one of the briefcase models on the game show Deal or No Deal. However, according to the author Andrew Morton’s book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Trevor wasn’t too keen on seeing her while she was on set.

According to Morton, Engelson didn’t visit her as other husbands or friends of the models did, which was “unusual.” Apparently, this was because he was occupied with his work as a producer and even skipped out on traveling with Meghan during her downtime.

“They were driven individuals, Trevor as busy, if not more so than his girlfriend,” royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.

A few months before they married, Meghan had landed a role on the television show Suits. They had to take a five-hour flight to see each other, which became an obstacle to married life. Trevor and Meghan stayed connected through video calls, but it didn’t solve the challenging situation.

Markle stayed on Suits for more than 100 episodes until 2018. But by 2013, she and Trevor Engelson had divorced. The couple cited “irreconcilable differences” at the time.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton suggested that the split shocked Trevor – and that Meghan even posted her engagement and wedding rings to him as a sign that their marriage had ended.

“Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan, who once said she couldn’t imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself,” he wrote.

Both Meghan Markle and Trevor Engelson found love again. The actress with Prince Harry, and Trevor with Tracey Kurland. But while they went their separate ways, Trevor Engelson continued to speak about Meghan – and Prince Harry – once it became known that they were dating.

According to a friend, and ex-girlfriend of Trevor’s, Bethanny Frankel, Meghan’s former husband had quite a surprising response to the news that she was dating Prince Harry in 2016.

Frankel, who has appeared on The Real Housewives of New York City, briefly spoke about Meghan and Trevor on The Toast podcast. Per The Mirror, she said that when she first met Trevor, he said he had an ex who “was a woman from a show called Suits.”

“I didn’t know what the show was,” Frankel admitted. “I didn’t know the woman. Months later, I see pictures showing Harry’s dating someone and texted him: ‘Is this your ex?’”

Later, Trevor was asked about Meghan and Harry. Bethenny asked, “Do you think she’s going to close?” She said Trevor replied, “Oh, she’ll close.”

She continued, “I don’t want to get into more about that, but he was like, ‘She’ll close.’”
