Man converts double-decker bus into tiny home that perfectly fits his family of eight

Many people dream about living on the road, but few people push through. Dane Eyerly is one of those pursuing the dream of a life on the road. Take note that he is bringing his wife and six kids with him!

He converted a double-decker bus into their new home, and their home/bus tour video now has 15 million views!

The front of the bus is Dane’s home office and the cockpit. He works in software and can work remotely, which is perfect for their new lifestyle.

The bus has a fully-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen, with a large refrigerator, freezer, two-burner stove, and oven.
It even has a full-size 30-inch kitchen sink.

Dane explained that they only have a two-burner stove because they use their Instapot often for cooking and do a lot of cooking outside the bus.

Behind the kitchen is the dining area large enough for the entire family. It has a folding table that folds out from behind the seating area.

One thing noticeable about the bus is how bright it is.

“One of the things we really love about this space is really all the windows. The giant windows was one of the reasons why we bought the bus in the first place,” Dane shared with Tiny Home Tours.

“The real reason we wanted to try something new, so drastically different from something we’ve done before, is we felt so tied down to chasing money for happiness. Thinking the more money we made, the better job title I had, the happier we would be. But ultimately, chasing that money meant more time spent away from the family,” Dane explained.

During a road trip from Utah to Texas, he and his wife realized they were truly happy during experiences like this.

They began researching RVs and the RV lifestyle before they even got home.

Their research determined that converting a double-decker bus was the right choice for them.

Dane continued the bus tour and showed their toilets and showers.

The bus has two separate toilets and one full-size shower with cedar walls to ensure everyone can use a bathroom when needed.
The top level of the bus is where they have their ventless washer and dryer combo. They also have a unique appliance called a Sweepovac that sucks in all the dirt and dust that gathers in the bus, instead of the dust being swept outside.

The kids have one bunk bed each that they can personalize and make their own.
The kids have their own area at the back of the bus where they keep all their homeschooling materials.

This is also where Dane and his wife’s king-size bed does double duty as the play area for the kids to stay in and play during the day.

They bought the bus in August 2020, dropped it off at the builders in September of the same year, and finally picked it up in December 2021.

“Our plan is to chase 70-degrees. We don’t like cold weather, we don’t like hot weather. 70 degrees is the ideal, wherever that takes us,” Dane said.
Their initial plan is to spend two weeks each in the lower 48 states for the next two years. However, they will re-evaluate every six months to see if this lifestyle is still working for their family.

One of the best parts of the bus is the roof deck they created on top.
They put in boat decking to make it less slippery and added a railing for safety. They consider it their private outdoor space where the kids enjoy movie nights.

Dane and his family have made the leap that others can only dream of and may be too afraid to pursue. The Eyerly family is now part of the 11 million households that own an RV.

“We’re doing this to inspire others to take this leap. I never set foot in an RV before doing this. I think the reward is well worth the risk we’ve taken,” Dane shared.

The Eyerly family is off on an amazing adventure and we’re so excited to see how their journey.
