Louisiana shooter Shamar Elkins’ haunting final post before killing his 7 children and their cousin

Shamar Elkins is accused of killing his seven children and their cousin before being fatally shot in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Sunday. Chilling details of what happened have been revealed – and now, his last haunting Facebook post has come to light.

In the house, police found eight children, seven of whom were children of suspect Shamar Elkins and one being his cousin, dead. Bordelon said most of the victims were shot in the head while they were sleeping. The suspect was identified as Shamar Elkins.

Elkins’ wife, as well as a woman believed to be his girlfriend, were also shot and seriously injured in the violence. The eight-year-old child reportedly tried escaping from the roof before he was shot.

The children who were murdered were three boys and five girls, ages 3 to 11, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office said. Police had previously given their ages as about 1 to 14.

The children were all identified as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Braylon Snow, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; and Khedarrion Snow, 6.

Spokesperson Christopher Bordelon with the Shreveport Police Department said during a news conference that police believe Elkins was the sole person to fire shots. Authorities continue to piece together what led to the massacre.

“I just don’t know what to say. My heart is just taken aback,” Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith told reporters, per NBC News. “I just cannot begin to imagine how such an event can occur.”

“This is a tragic situation, maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport,” Mayor Tom Arceneaux said.

Elkins was later killed by police during an attempted carjacking, the police department wrote on Facebook.

“Officers located the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The pursuit continued into Bossier Parish, where officers ultimately engaged the suspect. Officers were forced to discharge their department-issued firearms, neutralizing the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Shreveport police wrote.

Elkins worked at UPS and served with the Louisiana Army National Guard from August 2013 to August 2020 as a signal support system specialist and fire support specialist, per the NY Post.

Per a report in The New York Times, the father had confessed to his tepfather that he was drowning in “dark thoughts” weeks before the horrific murders of his seven children and their cousin.

Elkins hinted at mental-health struggles in another recent Facebook post, where he called for God to “guard” his mind.

“Dear God, Today I ask You to help me guard my mind and my emotions,” a post from April 9 read. “When negativity arises, remind me to say, ‘It does not belong to me, in the name of Jesus.’”

Just days before the horrifying mass murder, on Friday, Shamar Elkins made a last, haunting post on social media. Per his Facebook page, he took his eldest daughter out on a date to a burger restaurant.

“Lol!!!! Took my oldest on a lil 1 on 1 date had to catch her down bad ugh ugh,” the killer wrote, along with a string of laughing emojis.
