Catholic content creator Paul J. Kim shared a heartbreaking news from his life on New Year’s Day. His 5-year-old son Micah tragically passed away on New Year’s Eve on December 31.

He posted an emotional video on his social media where he said, “After fighting 11 long hard days, [Micah] went home to the house of our father.”

“We are so proud of him. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart as his dad, on behalf of my family, for all the ways you guys prayed and lifted us up during this time. This incredibly difficult, impossible time for our family. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life and it continues to be,”

“As much as this time I just want to have privacy and have time to mourn with my family I felt like I owed all of you an update, just out of gratitude. Micah is already in Heaven at work, seriously, so many testimonies, so many ways in which God is using the light in my five-year-old to truly save souls and change the world,” Kim said in his video.

Micah was admitted to the hospital on December 21 when he was suffering from a case of influenza.

However, his condition got worse and he contracted sepsis. This is when the body forms an immune response and attacks itself.

Despite medical professionals trying their best, Micah did not improve. He was then admitted to intensive care and reportedly did not have any ‘brain activity present.’ His death occured on New Year’s Eve.

Kim shared how when the family came back home without their son, it was the ‘heart-wrenching awkward experiences,’ of his life.

“Coming back to a home where Micah is not running around, laughing and screaming as he usually is,” the influencer said in his video.

Micah is one of the 3,100 people in the United States who have died after they contracted the flu this season. Over 7.5 million other people were also infected with the flu.

Children who are young and infants are among those who are hit hardest. This strain of flu was mutated into a ‘super-flu’ and has been causing infections which are much more severe than usual.

The biggest strain right now is Influenza A which is a fast-spreading mutated H3N2 called ‘subclade K.’

It is considered responsible for a big number of hospital admissions which have come this season since the Summer. Cases in UK, Australia, Japan and more were also reported.

Share this with others so they can send their thoughts and prayers to the family as well as they grieve this unfortunate loss.
