The Republican-controlled House passed the “Protecting American Energy Production Act” with a vote of 226 to 188.
This legislation prevents future administrations from banning oil and gas drilling, including hydraulic fracturing, without Congressional approval. Republican lawmakers unanimously supported the bill, while 118 Democrats opposed it.
The bill was introduced by Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, who expressed concerns over potential fracking bans during the Biden administration. The legislation follows actions taken by formerPresident Biden, who banned drilling on 625 million acres of coastal and offshore waters. Pfluger criticized Biden’s approach to energy production, calling it a “war on American energy.”
