He lived on the margins and ate food from dumpsters – yet he managed to become an iconic actor and a father of 4 heirs

Michael J. Fox, renowned actor battling Parkinson’s disease, faced challenges from an early age. Born in Canada to a working-class family, Fox discovered his passion for acting in junior high. At 17, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream, despite financial struggles. He reminisces, “I was 18 years old, with no money, no connections, literally dumpster diving for food.”

Despite hardships, Fox succeeded in the entertainment industry. Landing a role in the comedy series “Family Ties,” he skyrocketed to fame. His iconic portrayal of Marty McFly in “Back to the Future” solidified his place in Hollywood. Reflecting on his career, Fox shared a conversation with his mother about taking the role: “To this day — well, till two weeks ago — my mother thought it was a really bad idea for me to do Back to the Future. She loved the movie, [but she was right], I got tired.”

On the set of “Family Ties,” Fox met Tracy Pollan, his on-screen love interest. Their on-screen sparks translated into real-life love, leading to their marriage in 1988. The couple welcomed four children: Sam Michael, twins Schuyler Frances and Aquinnah Kathleen, and Esmé Annabelle. Despite personal and health challenges, Fox remains an inspirational figure.

Michael J. Fox officially retired in 2020 due to his struggle with Parkinson’s disease. His life, marked by resilience and perseverance, serves as a testament to overcoming adversity. Fox’s journey, from dumpster diving to Hollywood stardom, inspires individuals worldwide. Beyond his acting prowess, he stands as a beacon of determination and passion, reinforcing the belief that dreams can be realized with unwavering commitment.
