He is 103, she is 100, and they have been married for 82 years – their secret to long and happy marriage will certainly surprise you

Married couples who stay together for decades are a pretty rare thing nowadays. The question you always ask these couples who are married for 50-60 years is what’s their secret and answer is almost always different.

We remember one couple saying “never go to bed mad at each other”, which is something that stuck with us. And of course trust and communication is great advice for fresh marriages.

But one couple from North Carolina deserves all the admiration and appreciation for celebrating 82 years of marriage. The couple also marked their 103rd and 100th birthdays respectively with a seven-day difference between them.

And their secret to a long and happy married life is pretty direct.

D.V. Williams, 103, and Willie Williams, 100, enjoyed a celebration that definitely deserved them at a in Charlotte, where they celebrated their anniversary and birthdays as they were chanting together with friends and family.

“Seeing them at this age and so well is still good, it’s just a blessing they’re still here”, said their granddaughter BJ Williams-Green.

The couple is no further distance from entering the Guinness Book of Records for married couples whose cumulative age is the oldest. The current record is held by 100-year-old Miyako and her husband Masau Matsumoto, 108 years old, of Japan.

The Japanese couple give credit to their long marriage for the woman’s patience.

But D.V. And Willie said they didn’t have a great secret to their success, “Just be nice to each other”, Willie Williams said.
