Diane Keaton died on October 11. The beloved singer’s family released a statement, saying the cause of death was pneumonia. Now, the death certificate has been released, giving more details about what really happened to Diane Keaton in the days before she passed.

Diane Keaton’s passing has left a significant void in Hollywood. Tributes to the Academy Award-winning actress, who died away on October 11, have flooded the internet as her family mourns the loss.

Shortly after her death, her dear friend, Grammy and Academy Award-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, stated that she saw Diane Keaton just weeks before her death. She was “stunned by how much weight she’d lost.”

“I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,” Sager told People. “She had lost so much weight.”

On Thursday, Keaton’s family released a statement, thanking them for the support as well as revealing that the mother of two died from pneumonia.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement read.

They added, “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

Now, Diane Keaton’s death certificate has been obtained by several media outlets. People Magazine obtained the certificate on Thursday, October 16, and it states primary bacterial pneumonia as the immediate cause of death. Keaton had it for several days before she died.

Moreover, the death certificate revealed that Diane Keaton had seen a doctor since late September. On October 9, two days before she died, she last saw her physician. No other significant contributing condition was discovered.

It also reveals that three days after her death, Diane Keaton was cremated. Per CNN, therefore, it indicates that there was no autopsy performed. If a death appears to be from natural causes, the Los Angeles medical examiner may not get involved, even in high-profile deaths.
