Gendie Miller, 49, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, was a devoted mother and cherished member of the softball community.
On July 23, 2025, she was attending a college showcase in McKeesport with her husband, Bill, supporting
their 16-year-old daughter, Marlee. Seeking shade from the heat, the couple sat under a tree—unaware of the danger above.
Bill heard a sudden crack and urged Gendie to move. A small branch struck him, but a much larger limb fell on Gendie,
hitting her head. Despite immediate help, her injuries were severe. She was rushed to Forbes Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Gendie was remembered for her warmth, humor, and deep commitment to family and community. Her death shocked all who knew her. Close family friend
Luka Bompiani called her a second mother to many. In the midst of grief, Marlee’s strength shone through when she told her father, “We’ve got this together.”
Support poured in, with a GoFundMe raising nearly $49,000 to help with funeral costs and ease the family’s burden.
The community continues to rally around the Millers—honoring not just how Gendie died, but the generous, loving way she lived.
