The Dalai Lama is a figure who is well-known and beloved all over the world. The prominent figure’s name was featured in the Epstein files over 150 times and now he is speaking out about the matter.

Keep reading to know more.

In files released by the U.S. Department of Justice between December 2025 and January 2026, the Dalai Lama’s name appeared more than 150 times. The prominent figure has now released a statement addressing this matter.

In the emails, the 90-year-old spiritual leader was hinted at being present on a certain island.

The Epstein files have connected dozens of high-profile names to the late disgraced convict. The names in the files include current and former Presidents and tech moguls.

Starting this week, some members of Congress will be able to look at the unredacted versions of the files so they can ascertain that no information was held back. On Thursday, February 5, China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported that the Dalai Lama’s name appeared over 169 times in the files that had been released.

The state-run broadcaster mentioned that an unknown sender told Epstein that they were considering attending a gathering where the Dalai Lama was allegedly set to attend. “About the event I told you almost a month ago on the island, that the Dalai Lama is coming, and I want to go there to see him. I can skip this event if you need my help today,” the email read.

In a later email, the person wrote, “Going now to the event with the Dalai Lama.”

None of the emails mentioned whether the person actually met or saw the Dalai Lama at any events. The Buddhist spiritual leader is well known and makes many appearances at various events across the globe.

There are also several emails from the disgraced financier Epstein and his associates attempting to arrange a dinner with the Dalai Lama.

In an email from May 2014, Epstein wrote to Woody Allen’s wife, Soon-Yi Previn, that he is “working on the Dalai Lama for dinner,” and in another email he wrote, “Fun dinner would be Dali [sic] Lama. Woody Allen and [Noam] Chomsky. Let’s do it.”

In another email he got from scientist Lawrence Krauss, he was asked whether the “dinner with Woody and Dali Lama [sic] on May 19th” was fixed.

“I will be coming to town on May 26th, and May 27th is my birthday. It would be a wonderful birthday gift to be involved. Otherwise, unless you want it to be the two of them, I might even consider flying in on a redeye just to be there for the afternoon,” the email stated.

Epstein merely replied with, “Talk tomorrow.”

Members of Congress who have access to the unredacted files may now make copies and further disseminate them.

The Dalai Lama has now issued an official statement to clear up any rumors. The statement, posted on X, said, “Some recent media reports and social media posts concerning the Epstein files are attempting to link His Holiness the Dalai Lama with Jeffrey Epstein.”

“We can unequivocally confirm that His Holiness has never met Jeffrey Epstein or authorized any meeting or interaction with him by anyone on His Holiness’s behalf,” it ended.

Last year, journalist Michael Wolff alleged that he had seen the Dalai Lama at Epstein’s residences. When he appeared on a podcast in 2025, he said he saw many high-profile figures, including the Dalai Lama, at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.

Wolff at the time speculated that perhaps the Dalai Lama’s presence at Epstein’s home might have been in an effort to raise funds for philanthropic purposes. Jacob Silverman another journalist working independently also analyzed the claim made by Wolff in his substack in a piece titled,  ‘Why Was The Dalai Lama At Jeffrey Epstein’s House?

While Silverman noted that the Dalai Lama did not answer questions about who had donated to him or his links to Epstein, the spiritual leader had previously received money from controversial figures. He mentioned the 2009 event at which the Dalai Lama spoke, which was later revealed to be a multi-level marketing organization.

NXIVM was founded by Keith Raniere in 1998. In 2019, he was convicted on seven criminal charges and sentenced to 120 years in prison. For speaking at the event, the Dalai Lama reportedly recieved $1 million.
