Couple’s quick thinking on rollercoaster mishap saves life

A couple has been praised for their quick actions when they realized tat a girl behind them was panicking because of a horrible roller coaster malfunction.

A day at Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Missouri, became a nightmate for a girl when her seatbelt came undone while on a roller coaster at the park on October 11.

The couple infront of her immediately sprang to action when they noticed that the girl’s seatbelt on the Mamba roller coaster came undone. They heard the girl screaming not in excitement but in pure fear.

The couple Chris and Casie Evins later spoke the media about the terrifying incident and reflected on their quick actions that likely saved the young girl’s life.

As with most roller coasters, a picture was taken mid-ride that showed how the couple had helped the girl stay in her seat.

Chris said while speaking to the media, “We get on the roller coaster and the very first hill, the girl sitting behind my wife just lets out this blood-curdling scream like I’ve never heard before.”

He said he initially thought that perhaps the girl is on a ride such as this for the first time but he quickly realized that something was wrong when she began screaming that her seatbelt had come undone.

The ride can reach up to 75mph and heights of 205ft. Without thinking twice, the couple turned and tried their best to help keep the girl secure in her seat.

Chris shared what he did, “I had looped my arm underneath her lap bar, which had a pretty big gap between her and the lap bar. So at this point, I’m seeing a huge space, no seatbelt.”

“I looped my arm underneath the lap bar, and I grabbed ahold of her wrist. My wife was pushing down on her legs,” he explained.

He shared that he and his wife had been on the roller coaster plenty of times and knew the twists and turns, anticipating what to do when potential shifts occurred.

The park confirmed that a second restraint came into play and that the ride was inspected for safety after the incident occurred.

A spokesperson for the park said, “The safety of our guests and team members is a top priority. Following the report of a guest concern on the ride several weeks ago, our team immediately closed the ride and completed a thorough inspection before reopening it that evening.”

The statement went on, “The ride is equipped with a multi-layered restraint system, with lap bars being the primary restraint. The seat belts serve as a secondary restraint.”

“Throughout multiple inspections, there was no evidence of restraint failure in the lap bar system or the buckles on any seat belts during any of the ride inspections and the ride has operated safely since the initial concern was raised.”

They concluded, “On Thursday, the ride underwent a comprehensive safety review by the Fire Marshall. Again, the lap bars and buckles were found fully functional, and we implemented slight modifications to a number of seat belts to ensure they met or exceeded all applicable safety standards before the ride opened to guests that evening.”

This is such a scary incident. The couple’s quick thinking definitely helped save the girl’s life. Share this with others.
