Congressional Staffer Regina Santos-Aviles Passes Away at Age 35

The Uvalde community is mourning the loss of Regina Santos-Aviles, a 35-year-old congressional staffer for U.S. Rep. Tony

Gonzales. She passed away after being discovered outside her home and transported to a San Antonio hospital for emergency

care. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, with both the Texas Rangers and Uvalde

Police Department involved in the case. Santos-Aviles had served as a regional district director since November 2021, where she

played a key role in supporting community development and helping local residents access resources and funding. She was

known for her dedication to public service and her strong connection to the people of Uvalde. Rep. Gonzales expressed his

condolences in a statement, describing Santos-Aviles as someone who “devoted her profession toward making a difference in

her community” and whose passion for helping others would not be forgotten. Police Chief Homer E. Delgado stated that there

was no indication of foul play at this time, though a full investigation will continue as is routine for such cases. The Bexar

County Medical Examiner’s Office will release a final report on the cause and manner of death in the coming weeks. Family

members are cooperating fully with authorities as they await further information. Friends and colleagues remember Santos-

Aviles as a devoted mother and a bright, uplifting presence. Those who knew her described her as someone who could light up

any room with her energy and kindness. While her passing has left a deep sadness, her legacy of service and the positive impact

she made on her community will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
