Christina Applegate shares raw update from hospital after kidney infection

Always charming Christina Applegate shared her recent health struggle, explaining she was admitted to the hospital with severe kidney infection that started with one of her kidneys but then spread to the other one too.

Applegate, who also has multiple sclerosis, said in an episode of her“MeSsy” podcast, “I’m holding in (a) bag o’ tears right now. Just (a) bag o’ tears. I sometimes fall into the nurse’s arms like a freako, just crying.”

She recorded it while still at the hospital but has since been released.

“I was in the hospital for seven days,” she said. “I’m home now, getting treated for the kidney infection, but my stomach issues are still a mystery we’re trying to solve.”

She first felt that something was off during a trip to Europe while visiting family. Once she returned, she went straight to the hospital, not wanting to take any chances.

“I was really afraid to go back home and get to the point where I was so bad that like at three in the morning, my poor friend has to drive me, and it’s a Saturday night and it’s going to be horrible,” she said.

“So I was like, ‘I’m going to go and I’m not leaving there until I have some f***ing answers!’ Like, I’m done. Think outside the box. Don’t just leave me there, give me meds, and say, ‘You feel better now. You’re going home.’ I want to know why this is happening, and I want it to stop so that I don’t have to keep coming here.”

It was only after she started experiencing excruciating pain that an emergency CT scan revealed she had a kidney infection.

“I’m here because of this kidney infection, and I have to have intravenous antibiotics right now,” she said on her podcast. “That’s where we’re at. Now they’re thinking it could be something else, and I don’t want to say what they think because I don’t want it to sound scary.”

The Dead to Me star was diagnosed with MS in 2021 and she has been open about her health ever since. She hosts the “MeSsy” podcast with fellow actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS.

According to NHS, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the brain and/or spinal cord. It may lead to symptoms such as difficulties with vision, movement of the arms or legs, sensation, or keeping balance.

It’s a lifelong condition that can sometimes cause serious disability. Currently, there is no cure but the symptoms may be managed with treatment.
