Brad Pitt sues Angelina Jolie as private emails revealed in court

Brad Pitt is suing his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, for millions of dollars. Court documents reveal the lawsuit and its details.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were once the it couple of Hollywood, but their marriage fell apart, and it took them both almost 8 years to end their 2-year marriage.

Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016. And while their separation had been finalized, the couple was locked in a legal battle of the ages that spanned years.

The biggest ongoing dispute from their marriage came from Château Miraval, a winery the couple bought together in France. Jolie had previously sold her stake in the winery to a third party, while Pitt claimed she violated their agreement that neither party would sell their stake without the other’s prior approval.

The couple has been involved in a legal battle since then. Now, court documents have revealed that Pitt is suing for $35 million in damages over the winery dispute, which has carried forward from the couple’s divorce proceedings.

The lawsuit was revealed from emails exchanged in November 2023.

Lawyers representing Jolie said on a previous occasion, “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation—he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages.”

It went on, “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”

In an email dated October 2023, Jolie’s team said that Brad Pitt was ‘seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations’.

Jolie’s legal team went on to refer to ‘Pitt’s continuing refusals to produce documents relating to the reasons why he needed his four-year NDA covering his personal misconduct’.

They made the argument that these were ‘to the heart of our case and must be produced’.

Lawyers representing Pitt in the case said that, less than six months after Jolie sold her Miraval shares, her legal team suggested a broader mutual non-disparagement clause to accompany their divorce.

When Pitt said that he and Jolie had agreed they would not sell their shares without the other’s approval, the actress denied they ever had such an arrangement.

The next public hearing for the case is on 17 December 2025.

Jolie’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, issued a statement to PEOPLE magazine which said, “Mr. Pitt’s reply brief does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation — all for the purpose of invading her privileged communications with her lawyers.”

The statement went on to say, “This once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina. We look forward to the upcoming hearing.”
