Billy Joel Opens Up About His Past With Christie Brinkley in New HBO Documentary

In the newly aired second part of Billy Joel: And So It Goes (July 25, 2025), Billy Joel reflects on his relationship with supermodel Christie Brinkley.

The pair met in 1983, married in 1985, and quickly became one of the era’s most famous couples, with Brinkley often serving as Joel’s creative muse.

By the late ’80s, however, their marriage faced strain from Joel’s long tours, creative pressures, and time apart. Both acknowledged the emotional

toll — Joel’s absence and Brinkley’s struggles appeared even in his music. They divorced in 1994 but maintained a cordial relationship.

In May 2025, Joel revealed he has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition. Brinkley responded with a heartfelt message wishing him well,

and their daughter Alexa Ray Joel offered public love and support, affectionately calling him “Pop.”

Brinkley also reflected on their life together in her memoir Uptown Girl, sharing both happy memories and difficulties.

While their romance ended decades ago, the continued mutual support among Joel, Brinkley, and Alexa highlights enduring care and respect.

Their story remains one of public glamour, private challenges, and lasting family bonds beyond marriage.
