Best friends of 30 yrs buy plot of land to build their own ‘tiny town’ where they can retire together

You’ve faced those grueling days when even getting out of bed seemed like a Herculean task.

You’ve celebrated promotions, mentored newcomers, and set benchmarks in your field.

And then, one day, you realize you’re standing at the cusp of a new chapter – retirement.
It’s not just the end of a career; it’s the beginning of a new adventure, and the tranquility that accompanies this realization is beyond words.

This profound sentiment was shared by a group of close-knit friends.
As they approached their retirement, they dreamt of making it special.

The brainstorming sessions were filled with vibrant ideas.

From the allure of the open road with RVs to the charm of settling down on a piece of land, they explored every avenue.

Their collective “aha!” moment arrived when they discovered an innovative trend that was gaining traction across the country: the tiny house movement.
These weren’t just compact homes; they represented a lifestyle choice that was both sustainable and practical.

The couples were instantly smitten with the idea, seeing it as the perfect blend of simplicity and modernity for their retirement.

To translate their dream into reality, they sought the expertise of Matt Garcia, a renowned architect.
The first order of business was to find a location that could accommodate their vision.

Their search culminated in the acquisition of a picturesque 10-acre plot nestled near the Llano River.

With the land in place, the exhilarating phase of designing their dream retirement abodes commenced.

Matt faced the intricate task of designing five distinct tiny houses, each reflecting the personality of its occupants, along with a communal space that would be the heart of their little community.
Each house, though compact, was a marvel of design, comfortably fitting a queen bed, a cozy loveseat, and a well-equipped bathroom.

The communal area was the epitome of shared luxury, complete with a state-of-the-art kitchen, laundry amenities, a sleek flat-screen TV, and a grand table that awaited lively conversations and festive celebrations.

But this venture wasn’t just about creating a retirement haven.

These friends, bound by years of shared memories, also had a mutual respect and love for the environment.
Their decision to opt for tiny homes was a nod to sustainable living, ensuring a minimal carbon footprint.

Interestingly, their embrace of the tiny house ethos didn’t signify a complete detachment from the bustling city life.
Several couples chose to maintain a dual lifestyle, holding onto their urban homes.

This gave them the flexibility of a serene retreat in their tiny homes and the vibrancy of the city whenever they desired.

This arrangement birthed another ingenious idea: when not in use, these charming tiny homes could serve as rental properties. And soon, they found themselves as hosts on Airbnb.

The name, proudly displayed on their front gate, was a testament to their unique approach to post-retirement life.

What could be more heartwarming than embarking on this fresh journey surrounded by dear friends in a place that radiated peace, harmony, and joy?

The glue that held this ambitious project together was their unwavering commitment to teamwork and open communication.

Jodi Zipp, one of the community members, beautifully articulated the essence of their journey: “Always be honest with your friends. If you can successfully navigate everyone’s ideas for what this can be, this kind of project can be an amazing experience and the perfect way to stay connected.”

Jodi’s words resonate with the spirit of their endeavor, and we couldn’t agree more!
