Transforming Recycled Containers into a Modern Eco-Friendly 2-Bedroom Home with Luxury Features

Living in a cool eco-friendly home made from old shipping containers is awesome. It’s a blend of being green and modern.

Using old containers isn’t just good for the planet, it also lets people get really creative with home design.

In Index, Washington, there’s a guy named Nick who built a super fancy eco-friendly home out of containers.

Nick and his wife bought a big piece of land in 2010, about six acres. They wanted a place for skiing and river fun in the summer, a spot to hang out with family and enjoy nature.

They built six small cabins on the land and started renting them out on Airbnb in 2017.

After finishing a tree house, Nick decided to make the Sea Container Cabin, an eco-friendly home.

The containers they used were made in 2007 and had a few dents from their old job of moving stuff.

But Nick thought the dents gave the house character, which people would like when they stayed there. The house has two big containers, each 40 feet long. They cut them in half to make four 20-foot parts.

Then they stacked them and made a cool entrance with a roof sticking out.

The containers were strong enough to stick out like that without falling over. They made the outside look like regular shipping containers, with handles and all. To save the trees, they built the house in sections, not all at once.

They used special insulation to keep the house warm and dry. The containers already had holes for doors and windows, so they just had to put frames around them.

On top of the house, they put a hot tub that runs on solar power and gas.

It took about six months to finish the house, from getting the containers in September to having guests in March. Nick got three containers for $12,000 and spent about $250,000 in total.

Inside, it looks like a cozy ski cabin, with skis as decorations.
