“Cheers Cast”: Then and Now – A Journey Down Memory Lane

The Cheers TV show had a reunion at the 2023 Emmy Awards in January 2024. Some of the main cast members, like Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt, got together to share memories. They were on a set that looked like the familiar bar from the show.

Ted Danson, who played Sam Malone, was known for keeping things calm on set. After Cheers, he had success in movies like “Three Men and a Baby” and TV shows such as “CSI” and “The Good Place.” He’s been married to Mary Steenburgen since 1995.

Shelley Long, who played Diane Chambers, became famous through Cheers. She later acted in shows like “Modern Family” and played Carol Brady in Brady Bunch movies. Shelley has a daughter named Juliana from her past marriage.

Rhea Perlman, known as Carla Tortelli, described Cheers as a huge part of her career. She won several Emmys for her role. Rhea also appeared in other TV shows and movies, including a role in the 2023 Barbie movie. She has been married to Danny DeVito since 1982.

John Ratzenberger played Cliff Calvin, the know-it-all mail carrier. Apart from Cheers, he is famous for voicing characters in Pixar movies. John has been married to Julie Blichfeldt since 2012.

George Wendt, who portrayed Norm Peterson, started with a small role in the Cheers pilot and later became a regular. He earned six Emmy nominations for his role. George also acted in other TV shows and movies, including Broadway performances. He has been married to Bernadette Birkett since 1978.

Kelsey Grammer, as Dr. Frasier Crane, had a successful spinoff show, “Frasier.” He won several Emmys for both Cheers and Frasier. Kelsey has been married four times and has seven children.

Bebe Neuwirth played Dr. Lilith Sternin and won Emmys for her role. She continued acting in TV shows like “Madam Secretary” and returned for the Cheers revival.

Woody Harrelson, known as Woody Boyd, joined Cheers in season 4 as a bartender. He received an Emmy for his role. Woody later had a successful film career, earning three Oscar nominations. He is currently working in London.

Kirstie Alley, who played Rebecca Howe, joined Cheers in season 6. She won an Emmy in 1991 for her role. Kirstie had success in movies and TV, including “Veronica’s Closet” and “Look Who’s Talking.”

Unfortunately, Nicholas Colasanto, who played ‘Coach’ Ernie Pantusso, passed away during the show. Woody Harrelson’s character replaced Coach on the show.
