Single mom downsized her rent from $1600 to $75 a month by going “all in” on tiny home

In a world where “going with the flow” is often the norm, especially when it comes to retirement planning, there are those who choose to swim against the current.

Michelle “MJ” Boyle is one such individual.

As a single mother of two, MJ faced the typical challenges of parenting and managing a household, but she didn’t let that dictate her future.

MJ’s journey is one of resilience and resourcefulness.

Faced with the daunting task of providing for her family and planning for the future, she found an innovative solution.

She was embarking on a journey to rebuild her life.

She crafted a sanctuary she affectionately calls “her empty nest.”

MJ’s path wasn’t easy.
She candidly shares, “My life has been a series of unfortunate events. I have been divorced twice. I have built two houses and I lost the houses basically in the carnage of my divorces.”

Yet, these setbacks didn’t deter her; they fueled her determination.

With her children heading off to college and no retirement fund in sight, MJ knew it was time for a change.

She didn’t just decide to build a tiny house. She envisioned a new way of life.
Her approach was different this time, grounded in her past experiences and focused on sustainability and financial independence.

MJ’s strategy was multifaceted.
She explains, “I built my first house, this house, basically using cash and sponsorships to make sure that I have a paid-for nice, comfortable house when I retire. Now I’m building a few more tiny houses that I look forward to renting like on Airbnb or a try it tiny or other VRBO kind of platforms and create some income so, that’s next.”

This wasn’t just about building a home; it was about creating a legacy.

Previously, MJ was burdened with a $1,600 monthly rent in Sherwood, Oregon, a financial strain that made saving nearly impossible.

As her kids prepared for college, she saw an opportunity to rewrite her financial story.

MJ’s journey led her to the Tiny House Movement, an architectural and social movement that advocates living simply in small homes.

The movement helped MJ and many others reduce financial and emotional burdens, embracing a life of simplicity and creativity.

And the best part is tht she’s loving her new lifestyle.

In her tiny home, MJ found freedom.

Free from the constraints of a hectic lifestyle, she infused her personality into every corner of her space.
A viewer aptly described her as “an embodiment of grit and resilience.”

From a hefty rent of $1,600, she transitioned to a charming home with only $75 in monthly expenses, a change that brought her immense satisfaction.

MJ’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and the appeal of minimalist living.

Her journey from renting to owning, and now to expanding her tiny home empire, is an inspiring tale of triumph over adversity.
