Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has reportedly joined the ownership group of the Cleveland Browns, according to an announcement made in Berea. The Akron native appeared at the press conference in a custom orange-and-brown suit and described the move as a childhood dream tied to his Ohio roots.

Kelce said he grew up imagining moments connected to the Browns and joked about finally “barking from the owner’s box.” The deal, if finalized as described, would make him the first active NFL player to hold an ownership stake in another franchise through a special league approval.

Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam outlined Kelce’s expected role as focusing on player development and fan engagement. One planned initiative is a Cleveland version of his “Tight End University” training program, combining his Kansas City project with Browns facilities.

Team officials also highlighted Kelce’s Ohio background and lifelong fandom, referencing stories of his early admiration for Browns legends. A humorous clause in the agreement reportedly requires him to perform his “Here Comes the Boom” routine during a Browns–Chiefs game halftime once per year.

Reactions across the NFL were immediate and playful. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes joked about Kelce “buying the competition,” while Jason Kelce shared a nostalgic childhood photo referencing their Browns fandom growing up in Ohio.

Other sports figures also reacted, including LeBron James, who welcomed Kelce to what he called the “Ohio sports ownership club.” Social media quickly amplified the story with a mix of surprise and humor.

Kelce’s first proposed initiative reportedly includes commissioning a statue of himself and his brother Jason at the Browns’ training facility, intended to inspire rookies with their shared football journey.

The announcement ended with Kelce leading a “Dawg Pound” chant, blending his Chiefs identity with his Ohio roots, marking a highly unusual crossover moment in NFL culture.
