Back in 2013, the county of Cambridgeshire in England was shocked by a series of horrific events which were later dubbed as the ‘Peterborough ditch murders.’ In the course of events, three people were found dumped in various ditches outside the city.

The victims included, 48-year-old property developer and landlord Kevin Lee, 31-year-old Polish national, Lukasz Slaboszewski, and 56-year-old John Chapman.

The murders were traced to Joanna Christine Dennehy. She was thought to have been behind the horrific murders which happened in a 10 day timeframe in March of 2013.

She was sentenced to life behind bars, making her one of the four women in the UK to ever recieve such a strong sentence. She joins the ranks of Myra Hindley behind the Moors murders, Rosemary Westwho killed 10 children with her husband, and Lucy Letby, a nurse convicted of killing seven babies.

Dennehy revealed later, that she would ‘never’ attack a woman, especially women who were mothers. She revealed to authorities her only intention was to hurt and kill men.

She also revealed to someone who was an accomplice that the reason she killed was for ‘entertainment.’

“I want my fun. I need you to get my fun,” she had said in a chilling statement to an accomplice, which was later read in court.

She first met Lee, her victim when she left prison and rented a cheap room in 2012. She was in a sexual relationship with Lee and was working as an ‘enforcer’ for him where she helped to collect rent on his behalf.

However, her first victim was Slaboszewski. He had believed Dennehy was his girlfriend. She lured him to her home and then stabbed him to death, eventually dumping his body in a garbage can.

She later said to a psychiatrist that she killed him to ‘see if I was as cold as I thought I was’.

She stabbed Chapman a week later, confessing to an accomplice over text by saying, “Oops, I’ve done it again.”

She killed Lee the same day after she promised to him sexual favors. She stabbed him as he came into her home. She then dressed his corprse in a black sequin dress before she left it in a ditch.

In the trial, it was revealed that she was planning to murder again. She had her acocmplice, Gary Stretch drive her to a location where she stabbed two men walking their dogs. The event lasted nine minutes before she made off with the dog of her second victim.

In November 2023, she plead guilty to three counts of murder and two attempted murder charges.

Her accompices, including Stretch also recieved sentences of 14 years and 3 years each.

Mr Justice Spencer determined that Dennehy was suffering from a psychological condition, paraphilia sadomasochism, which stimulates sexual enjoyment from influcting pain and humiliation on others.

The judge said that she was a ‘cruel, calculating, selfish and manipulative murderer’ before he deliberated and gave her a long sentence.
