Remembering Ace Patton Ashford: The Bright Rodeo Talent Gone Too Soon

The rodeo world is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Ace Patton Ashford from Lott, Texas, whose life was cut short in a tragic accident. While caring for a sick calf, a nearby horse was startled, and in the chaos, Ashford’s leg became caught in its gear. He was dragged across an open field and sustained critical head injuries. Though help arrived quickly, his injuries proved fatal, leaving his community heartbroken.

Ashford’s name was already well known among young rodeo talents. A recent graduate of Rosebud-Lott High School, he had just been accepted to the Hill College Rodeo Team, eager to continue pursuing his passion. His dedication and natural ability had earned him numerous junior and all-ages titles, showcasing a rare combination of precision, courage, and heart that set him apart from his peers.

Friends and mentors describe Ace as humble, hardworking, and deeply respectful — qualities that made him not only a fierce competitor but also a friend to everyone in the arena. National Finals Rodeo roper Cody Snow remembered him as “about as pure as they get,” honoring both his kindness and commitment to the sport. In his memory, a scholarship fund has been created to help support aspiring rodeo athletes following in his footsteps.

Family members, teammates, and fans continue to share tributes that reflect just how deeply Ace’s spirit touched others. His story serves as both an inspiration and a reminder of the courage it takes to chase a dream built on risk and reward. Though his journey ended far too soon, Ace Patton Ashford’s legacy will continue to ride on — in the arena, in the community, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
