Pennsylvania Mom Tragically Passes During Daughter’s Softball Event

Gendie Miller, 49, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, died on July 23 after a falling tree branch struck her during her daughter’s softball

camp at Renzie Park in McKeesport. Sitting under a tree to escape the heat, she was warned by her husband, Bill, who heard it crack

moments before it fell. Bill escaped with a minor scrape, but Gendie was pinned by heavy limbs and later died at Forbes Hospital.

A devoted mother and constant supporter of youth softball, Gendie was deeply loved in the local sports community for her kindness,

loyalty, and encouragement at her daughter Marlee’s games. Friends and coaches remembered her as someone who always put others first.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist the Millers with medical and funeral expenses.

The community has rallied, offering emotional and financial support as the family grieves.

McKeesport’s mayor called the accident tragic and rare. Marlee has shown remarkable strength, telling her father, “We’ve got this,” as they

face life without their beloved wife and mother. Loved ones hope the outpouring of compassion will help carry the family through this devastating time.
