He was one of CNN’s first reporters, hosting the business news program Moneyline in 1980.Due to controversy surrounding his coverage of illegal immigration, Dobbs departed CNN in 2009. He began hosting “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on Fox Business in 2010 and continued until its cancellation in 2021
