Randy Guijarro stumbled upon a remarkable photo of Billy the Kid playing croquet, purchased for $2 in 2010 at a California thrift shop. Once valued at $2, this 1878 tintype has now sold for millions. Guijarro and his wife Linda, collectors and adventurers, plan to use the unexpected windfall for more explorations.
Guijarro, a telecommunications expert, identified Billy the Kid in the photo through careful scrutiny, and it’s now the second authenticated image of the legendary outlaw, valued at $5 million. A National Geographic special hosted by Kevin Costner showcased the five-year investigative journey. Despite challenges and skepticism, the couple remained honest and dedicated. Guijarro hopes the money will fund a new car, adventures, and future treasure hunts. The California-based Kagin’s Inc. has insured the photo for $5 million and seeks a private buyer. Guijarro emphasizes their intent to share their discoveries and continue the thrill of the chase.
